Robert G Hale, DDS, COL completed undergraduate studies at UCLA in 1977 and earned his Doctoral in 1981 and Postdoctoral Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1989 at Emory University. He is Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (1992, 2002 and 2012) and Fellow, International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
In 1989, Dr. Hale established his full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in Northridge, CA. From 1989 to 2003 Dr. Hale held many leadership positions at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, to include Chairman of the Dental Department, Member-at-Large of the Medical Executive Committee and Director of NHMC’s Foundation. Dr. Hale also was Director of the Southern California Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and President of the San Fernando Valley Dental Society.

COL Hale was commissioned in the US Army in 1977. His Active and Reserve service includes tours in Korea 1981 and Hawaii 1982-1985, Kuwait/Iraq 2003-2004 and Afghanistan 2004. In 2005, COL Hale left private practice in Los Angeles to serve at Brooke Army Medical Center as Program Director for OMFS Residency and Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. From 2009 to 2014, COL Hale was Commander, US Army Dental and Trauma Research Detachment, Director of Craniomaxillofacial Research at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research (ISR) in San Antonio, ISR’s Representative to the Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Consultant to the Surgeon General for Dental Research.
COL Hale is published in numerous professional journals and books, and has lectured extensively worldwide on craniomaxillofacial battle-injuries and regenerative medicine. COL Hale holds a teaching appointment at UCLA School of Dentistry since 1990 and he is Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Postgraduate Dental School, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons honored COL Hale with the prestigious Humanitarian Award in 2009. He is a member on the American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs.
COL Hale’s military awards include the Legion Merit, Bronze Star Medal – Operation Iraqi Freedom, Bronze Star Medal – Operation Enduring Freedom, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 30 year Hourglass Device and Expert Field Medical Badge. He holds the “A” Proficiency Designator from the Surgeon General to recognize professional expertise, leadership, and academic achievements; he is recipient of the Order of Military Medical Merit.
In October 2014 COL Hale retired from Active Duty and joined his longtime friend and colleague, Dr. James P. Jensvold, in private practice.
